Melissa Smedes

Melissa Smedes is a young Dutch florist who likes to challenge herself by participating in competitions. She has a passion for flowers and creative work.

Melissa, who currently works in a florist shop, now finds herself being offered more opportunities to become more involved with different aspects of the floral world. She loves these opportunities/challenges.

Her biggest challenge, so far, was the Interflora World Cup 2023 in Manchester, UK where she met the team from Floral Fundamentals. We were so impressed by her quiet determination to keep improving that she was invited to become an Ambassador for Floral Fundamentals.

Melissa says, “I live in the north of the Netherlands. In fact, I am a ‘small town girl.’ Living in the north of the Netherlands means you live close to nature and that means a lot to me. It is a quiet area, surrounded by meadows and forests.”

“I love anything creative – from visiting hobby fairs, designing greetings cards and creating jewellery. Inspiration is always the drive to start with new things! I use this creativity in my floral designs. I focus on working with flowers in a decorative way.”

“It takes a lot of energy and time to work on these events while thinking about my future as a florist. The first thing you need after a big event is rest and sleep. Then, after a few days, you start to waken up again. The feeling to compete and join another competition. I won’t give up!”
