Gerrit van Aalst is a 22-year-old floral designer. A Dutchman born in Ukraine who moved to the Netherlands alone at the age of 16 to study floristry!
He has an incredible love for competitions! So far, he has won the title of Dutch Junior Floristry Champion three times — twice at Skills Heroes (NL) in 2023 and 2024, and most recently at the Dutch Youth Championship 2026.
He also has international competition experience: gold at the Botanica Cup in Hungary, and participation in EuroSkills Gdańsk 2023 (5th place) and WorldSkills Lyon 2024 (4th place).
In 2025 he completed his studies and is currently building a career as a freelancer, while continuing to work in a flower shop. He told us that he is fully preparing for EuroFleurs Spain 2027!
In his work he often uses a laser printer. “I enjoy combining modern, futuristic forms with natural textures and materials. I’m also always searching for new materials, textures, and forms that can be combined with flowers and other natural elements.”
