There’s one thing about the Dutch when it comes to flowers – they love to celebrate them and party too!
The famous Varend Corso Westland is one such occasion. It is effectively a floating floral party so Floral Fundamentals were delighted to learn that our Ambassador, Tiffany van Lenten, was taking part. Tiffany had to decorate a boat that would sail through the canals for the weekend event.
Day 1 saw her (assisted by her Mum) literally painting the boat and preparing the layout.
Day 2 she added soaked floral foam and greenery.
Day 3 was when she actually arranged the flowers and, as luck would have it, some of our other Ambassadors – Khôi Hà, Alex Segura Arana and Marek Jakobi – arrived to help too.
The completed design had to last until the Sunday evening.
Her boat was apparently not to be part of the competition that went on. One of the judges had a word with her because she chose to use Hydrangea for part of her design. The judge told her that this was a mistake because it wouldn’t last. Tiffany replied that she had every confidence in her flowers because she knows the grower personally and they only grow the best quality plus she had conditioned them properly!
Imagine her surprise when she went to the celebration on the Sunday evening to discover that she had received third prize in the commercial section! She tells us that she only had to replace a couple of stems including one Hydrangea on the boat even although it was one of the hottest weekends of the summer so far.
Well done Tiffany!
